چکیده

The role of some glass network modifiers on the quantum efficiency of the near-infrared fluorescence from the 3 H 4 level of Tm 3+ ion in silica-based doped fibres is studied. Modifications of the core composition affect the spectroscopic properties of Tm 3+ ion. Adding 17.4 mol% of AlO 3/2 to the core glass caused an increase of the 3 H 4 level lifetime up to 50 µs, 3.6 times higher than in pure silica glass. The quantum efficiency was increased from 2% to approximately 8%. On the opposite, 8 mol% of PO 5/2 in the core glass made the lifetime decrease downto 9 µs. These changes of Tm 3+ optical properties are assigned to the change of the local phonon energy to which they are submitted by modifiers located in the vicinity of the doping sites. Some qualitative predictions of the maximum achievable quantum efficiency are possible using a simple microscopic model to calculate the non-radiative de-excitation rates.

Temperature Effect on THz Quantum Cascade Lasers

A simple semi-phenomenological model, which accurately predicts the dependence of thresholdcurrent for temperature of Resonant-phonon three well quantum cascade laser based on verticaltransitions is offered. We found that, the longitude optical phonon scattering of thermally excitedelectrons is the most important limiting factor for thermal performance of high frequency THz QCLs.In low frequenc...

Modulation Response and Relative Intensity Noise Spectra in Quantum Cascade Lasers

Static properties, relatively intensity noise and intensity modulation response in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) studied theoretically in this paper. The present rate equations model consists of three equations for the electrons density in the conduction band and one equation for photons density in cavity length. Two equations were derived to calculate the noise and modulation response. Calcula...

Thulium environment in a silica doped optical fibre

Thulium-doped optical fibre amplifiers (TDFA) are developed to extend the optical telecommunication wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) bandwidth in the so-called S-band (1460–1530 nm). The radiative transition at 1.47 μm (3H4 3F4) competes with a non-radiative multiphonon de-excitation (3H4 -3H5). The quantum efficiency of the transition of interest is then highly affected by the phonon ene...

Stochastic Assessment of the Renewable–Based Multiple Energy System in the Presence of Thermal Energy Market and Demand Response Program

The impact of different energy storages on power systems has become more important due to the development of energy storage technologies. This paper optimizes the stochastic scheduling of a wind-based multiple energy system (MES) and evaluates the operation of the proposed system in combination with electrical and thermal demand-response programs and the three-mode CAES (TM-CAES) unit. The prop...
